Choose Your Method of Camping

Camping to one person might be very different than what another person sees as camping. You might be thinking about tent camping while another person might be thinking about pulling their RV out to a full hookup RV spot.

Knowing your comfort level for camping is a must before you start planning your weekend. If you have a bad back, you might not want to be on a sleeping bag on the ground in a tent. On the other hand, if roughing it doesn’t bother you, this won’t be a problem.

RV Camping

If you’re more of a glamper then RV camping might be the best option for you. You can have all of the luxuries of home and take it with you anywhere you want to go.

RVs are a little bit more expensive than tents but the luxury camping experience is pretty amazing.

Tent Camping

If you think about tent camping as a little one-room tent — that doesn’t have to be the case. There are massive tents with multiple rooms that you can buy depending on the size of your camping party.

Pick Your Campsite In Advance

Don’t just hope that your campsite is going to be available when you get there. Look for a few camping spots that look ideal and see if you can find their online reservation page and secure your spot.

Some campsites don’t have reservations but many of them do. If you can’t find an online reservation page then you can call the campground to see if they can put a reservation down for you.

While you can get some good campsites at first come first served locations if you’re a planner that might work for your need of organization.

Keep an Eye On the Weather

If you choose your campsite far in advance, there is one thing you need to think about. The weather might change and be unseasonable. We can tell you that you don’t want to be camping in a tent when there’s a torrential downpour, a crazy tornado or a severe thunderstorm.

When you look at the weather and you see it is going to be a little cooler or warmer than you thought it was going to be, that won’t necessarily be as bad of a problem, so you can just bring clothes that will allow you to be comfortable.

Bring Your Must-Have Camping Accessories

You never know what is going to happen when you’re out camping so make sure you’re prepared for everything. Bringing the right camping accessories can make or break your trip.

If you want to have power at all times, you’re going to need to buy a good generator. Find a petrol generator for sale at a good price and you’ll make your camping trip much easier. Even if you’re in the RV park with a full hookup, you never know when the power is going to go out.

Flashlights and Lanterns

Having flashlights will allow you to navigate your campsite without tripping over roots or other obstructions. Don’t forget to bring extra batteries for them. If you’re tent camping, you’re going to need flashlights or lanterns for all of your lighting, so don’t skimp on these essentials.

Everyone loves their campfires but if you want to create a great campfire, you’re going to need to chop some wood unless you want to bring it with you. You don’t have to bring a big axe since you can usually find some little branches to chop up for the fire.

Propane Grill

Propane grills are a good way to cook hot dogs, hamburgers, chicken, veggies and anything else your taste buds desire. You might want to test cooking on your grill before you go on your camping trip since they cook differently than charcoal grills you might have at your home.

Sunshades can make even the hottest days more bearable. You can find different types of sunshades that can stretch over your tent and chair area to keep the temperatures as low as possible if you’re camping in the hottest months of the year.

Clothes Line

If you’re going to be hanging out near the water, you need to bring a clothesline so you’ll be able to dry your clothes. If you accidentally leave your clothes in a pile, they are likely to get ruined from mildew.

Pack Extra Clothes

When you go camping, you don’t want to take too much extra stuff but having extra clothes is a necessity. You never know when you might take a fall in the mud or the water.

If you have kids, we can guarantee you that someone is going to spill something or find another way to get filthy.

Bring extras of these items of clothing:

  • T-shirts
  • Underwear
  • Socks
  • Pants
  • Jackets

When you have some extra clothes, you might even be able to help a fellow camper out that wasn’t so well-prepared.

Plan Out Entertainment

Before you head out, plan some entertainment. It’s easy to get to your campsite and think of all of the things that you wish you would have brought. When you plan out the weekend’s entertainment, you can be sure that you’re going to have the most fun possible.

If you have something major planned, give yourself plenty of time to recover after you’ve had a big adventure. While you want to fit a lot of fun into your time in the great outdoors, you also want to make sure that you aren’t overloading yourself.

You may not even need to leave your campsite when you’re looking for entertainment. If you have a stream nearby or a lake, you can go swimming, fishing or just go out and look at the water. You may have some good trails nearby so you can get some exercise and be able to see the beauty of nature.

Plan for Good Eats

Eating delicious food is half the fun of camping. If you brought your grill, it’s going to be pretty easy for you to cook just about anything you want to fix. You might also want to bring a propane burner in case you want to cook some veggies in a pot.

Planning out your food is going to allow for a stress-free adventure. The less planning you have to do when you’re out trying to have a good time, the more fun it is going to be.

If there is a group of adults, make sure you check to see if there are any requests. Also, you need to see who wants to have food responsibility each day. No one person should have to take care of it every day.

Don’t Rush

We can guarantee you if you rush — something is going to go wrong. You might not forget a child as they did on Home Alone but nothing good ever comes from rushing.

We’ve seen people forget to secure their grill and leave their tailgate open just to have it sling off as they’re speeding out of the campground. We’ve seen people leave parts of their tent at their camping spot and more.

Take your time to get there and take your time to leave. You should also make a checklist and go through it carefully to ensure you get everything done. Don’t forget to add “go to the bathroom” on the checklist so you don’t have to pull off the road right away when you’ve just started your journey.

Start Small

On your first camping trip, make sure you don’t go too far away. If you try to go far away from your home on the first camping trip, it’s likely to be more stressful than it needs to be.

You’re likely to forget something or to be much slower at getting to your destination the first go of things. Don’t burn yourself out before you even get going.
